Social Learning Model

At Asheville Academy, our Level System is the foundation of our program.  Based on a social learning model, this level system is strategically designed level system to address the student’s ability to regulate her emotions, accept limits, respect authority, take personal responsibility for her actions and understand the positive and negative consequences of her choices.  We focus on treating the whole student which includes addressing her social, physical, academic and psychological needs.

The model at Asheville Academy is composed of 3 phases:

1. The first phase is known as “Adult Staff Role-modeling”.   Through our daily interactions with both students and other staff members, we (the adults) will display and role model desired behaviors and interactions for our students.

2. The second phase is referred to as the “Co-regulation phase”.  This is where the student will begin to take on the role of self-regulation with consistent adult support and feedback.

3. During the final phase, the student will work on practicing and mastering skills in the areas of communication, regulating emotions, self-discipline, conflict resolution and identifying and changing negative core beliefs.

Once a student is able to experience success as a result of the positive changes she is making in her life, she will begin to see a positive shift in numerous areas of her life.

Through modifying her negative and self-destructive thinking patterns, a student’s behaviors will begin to change over time.   As girls begin to transform they also become empowered.  For the first time ever, they realize they have the power to create joy and happiness in all aspects of their lives.
